biography

I began studying Choral Music Direction in 2007 whilst I was singing with Gay Abandon. My initial training was with the organisation Sing for Pleasure. After completing their advanced course in 2010 I continued my studies with the Association of British Choral Directors and the Royal Schools of Music, gaining an LRSM in Choral Direction in 2017. I am Music Director of:

CANTABILE chamber choir - Leeds, appointed in 2011.

EUROPEAN QUEER CHOIR [EQC], appointed in 2016.

GAY ABANDON appointed 2023.

My work as a Choral Music Director includes arranging and composing music for choirs.

I work with energy, commitment and enthusiasm to ensure that my music-making is enjoyable, inclusive, respectful, rewarding and fun!

My role is that of an enabler, helping singers to be the best that they can and to help them achieve things musically that they perhaps do not know they are capable of. I understand that singing is a very personal activity to which we bring every aspect of ourselves. Singing as part of a group becomes a powerful and affirmative shared experience.

My musical interests range from early music to that of contemporary composers and popular music of the 20th anad 21st centuries. The diversity of my current choirs enables me to work across this range, moving with ease from Perotin to Part and from Cole Porter to Christine and the Queens. I treat all the music in my repertoire with the same respect and care whilst endeavouring to articulate the particularities of each genre.

‘Music is my passion, working with a diverse group of singers is a privilege and sharing music with others is a joy.’
